Prof Dr Beecken was born in Hamburg in 1964. After finishing school and serving in the military, Prof Beecken took up his medical studies at the University in Hamburg in 1986. During his university years, he spent some time in San Francisco, USA, in 1990 and in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1991. He graduated with honours in human medicine in Hamburg in 1993.
In the same year Prof Beecken took up a job assignment at the Clinic for Oncology and Haematology of the University Clinic in Hamburg, mentored by Prof Dr D.-K. Hossfeld. Until 1994 Prof Beecken extended his expertise in internal medicine and oncology (cancer medicine).

- In late 1994 Prof Beecken moved to Marburg to take on a new assignment at the Philipps University to focus on his medical training in the field of urology mentored by Prof Dr H. Riedmiller.
- In 1995, he completed surgical training mentored by Prof Dr Dr h. c. mult. C. E. Broelsch at the University in Hamburg and embarked on further urological training at the J. W. Goethe University in Frankfurt, mentored by Prof Dr D. Jonas.
- Between 1997 and 2000, Prof Beecken put his urological training in Frankfurt on hold to spend three years on a research project at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, mentored by Prof Dr J. Folkman.
- Prof Beecken has published more than 40 scientific papers, written numerous medical articles and given a number of speeches at various conferences.
- In his medical career, Prof Beecken has focused primarily on diagnosing and treating prostate carcinoma. Additionally, he concentrates on diagnosing and treating erectile and ejaculatory dysfunctions and identifying reasons for infertility.
