Practice for Prostate Diagnostics:

Diagnosing prostate disorders - and in particular detecting or ruling out a prostate carcinoma - requires an extensive physical examination, which goes beyond just determining the PSA blood level (prostate-specific antigens) and palpating the prostate. In our private urology practice located inthe Vitalicum Health Care Centre, Prof Wolf-D. Beecken, MD, and PD Dr Tobias A. Engl, MD, specialise in diagnosing and treating prostate disorders with the help of the latest in medical equipment and technology.

Because of their long years of experience and specialisation in diagnosing and treating prostate carcinoma, both Prof Beecken and PD Dr Engl are actively involved in developing and testing innovative medical methods and systems. Just in 2008, our urology practice in the Vitalicum Health Care Centre was named the Hitachi Reference Centre for Prostate Elastography (an innovative method to visualise the prostate's degree of hardness, a key factor in diagnosing prostate carcinoma).

Methods we use to examine the prostate:

  • Palpating the prostate
  • Blood testing (PSA and derivatives, Kallikrein, alkaline phosphatase etc.)
  • Pharmako-PSA Testing (testing for Finasterid and/or Ciprofloxacin)
  • Urinary testing (PCA3, DiaPat, etc.)
  • Prostate ultrasound
  • Prostate blood-vessel Doppler ultrasound
  • Elastography of the prostate
  • PET/CT of the prostate (in co-operation with the University Clinic in Frankfurt)
  • Prostate MRI (in cooperation)
  • Ultrasound, blood-vessel Doppler ultrasound and/or elastography-guided prostate biopsy
  • Prostate surgery
