Precautionary Screenings

Our private practice team at the Vitalicum Health Care Centre is highly qualified and has many years of experience in urological screenings.

Male Screenings:

Prostate carcinoma is the most frequent cancer in men. About 60,000 men in Germany are newly diagnosed with prostate carcinoma every year. Because prostate carcinoma develops unnoticed, all men who are 40 years of age or older should have a urological screening every year. If prostate cancer is diagnosed early and has not yet spread, there is an excellent chance it can be cured completely. In a routine urological screening, we check other major urinary organs - the kidneys, bladder and male genitals - as well. As 60 % of all kidney tumours, for example, are detected by accident, a screening is your best option to have them diagnosed early on.

During these screenings we also pay special attention to hormonal changes in men 40 years or older. From this age on, a slow decline in the testosterone level may set in, resulting in symptoms such as fatigue/reduced performance, depression, burn-out syndrome or a decline in libido. As major metabolic diseases, such as diabetes, heart and cardiovascular diseases, have also been associated with low testosterone levels, an early diagnosis and therapy are vital to prevent severe health problems later in life.

Prof Beecken and PD Dr Engl use the most recent medical and scientific standards for diagnosis and treatment. Hence, they apply innovative methods such as hormone profiling, PCA3 gene testing, DiaPat proteome analysis, BTAstat urinary testing and prostate elastography.

Female Screenings:

Many people still believe that a urologist only treats men, although there are quite a few urological disorders that affect a woman's health as well. Every woman sees her gynaecologist for a regular screening (e.g. PAP smear to detect cervical carcinoma). About 6,200 women in Germany are newly diagnosed with cervical carcinoma every year, whereas during the same time period about 7,300 women are diagnosed with urinary bladder cancer and 6,400 women are diagnosed with kidney cancer. Therefore, we highly recommend a gynaecological screening PLUS a urological screening every year to detect serious urological disorders early on.

Prof Beecken and PD Dr Engl are very experienced urologists who use the most recent medical and scientific standards in diagnosis and treatment.

For these type of screenings, they apply the latest methods such as DiaPat Proteomics, BTAstat urinary testing and high-resolutions ultrasound.
