Fertility Problems

In Germany about 15 % of couples who want to start a family are unable to conceive (and this rate is on the rise). According to the WHO, infertility is defined as the failure of a couple to conceive a pregnancy after trying for at least one year. If a couple is unable to conceive, the woman is not necessarily to blame. A rule of thumb says that about 30 % of infertility problems are due to women, 30 % are due to men and 30 % are due to both partners. Both women and men are most fertile (able to conceive) when they are around 24 years old. After that age, fertility starts to decline.

There are many reasons for infertility (inability to conceive) in both men and women. Therefore, both partners need to undergo thorough physical examinations to determine the reasons for their infertility. In our private urology practice, we offer extensive urological examinations for men. Prof Beecken and PD Dr Engl are both certified andrologists (medical specialists for men). In co-operation with the Private Practice for General Medicine (Dr Janis, MD) and the Private Practice for Gynaecology (Dr Pauthner, MD), we offer the whole range of appropriate physical examinations for both partners under the roof of the Vitalicum Health Care Centre.
